North British Pain Association
Tom was just looking through the North British Pain Association blog and found a few interesting podcasts of some presentations at conferences by Senior lecturers. The blog is:
Hi
Up until 2006 l worked a very corporate lifestyle earning in excess of $80 kpa.
I loved my work and miss it very much.
During 2006 l had a major operation for a bowel obstruction which is indicative of some one with my condition of diagnosed Ischemic Colitis.
I had a sympathetic GP who would issue me with Panadiene Forte which only made me sleepy and blocked up my insides.
After major surgery and 6 weeks in hospital my surgeon sent me home with 10mg of Oxycontin which was to be taken daily and or up to 4 times a day if needed.
I took 3 months off work due to this set back not because of the drug but because my health was not good.
I tried to go back to work but unfortunately my conditioned worsened and l was re admitted to hospital where l was given huge amounts of morphine to cope with this condition.
A letter was sent to my GP along with the discharge list of drugs that were prescribed.
From there my GP has been providing me with 5 mg 10mg and 20mg of Oxycontin until early this year when he said that DAAS would be asking him for an explanation soon re his giving me these restricted drugs.
Imagine my surprise when l had thought this was all above board and that l was not doing anything wrong.
Not long after this appointment l saw my Gastroenterologist who explained that these drugs were restricted and that l should be seeing some one at DAAS re their use.
He would refer me privately to a colleague which he did.
I saw this Dr at DAAS and was informed that this drug was restricted and that he suspected that after 3 years l was probably an addict.
I had gone from a patient to an addict in 3 visits.
There is more to my situation and so l will not go into it all however l am now restricted to x amount per day and have days when l am in constant pain, l try to work and do what l can, but must confess to feeling at a loss and definitely a second rate citizen.
I am upset at this treatment through no fault as l can see of my own.
When l asked my GP why he had not applied for this Authorization letter before now his response was that he was not sure he would get it, Can you imagine where l would be if that had happened.
I would be very interested to hear more about your groups and support any move to make the government listen to these issues seriously.
I feel dreadful most days and feel from looking at your website that you may understand my situation.
Thank You
Kim Bruns
